Chief of Police Rob Rodriguez began his law enforcement career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in January of 1994 as a Corrections Officer assigned to Lee State Prison. After a short stent with the Department of Corrections, Chief Rodriguez transitioned to law enforcement at the community level. Chief Rodriguez joined the Pelham Police Department (Georgia) and started the department’s School Resource Officer Program at Pelham High School.
In late 1997, Chief Rodriguez joined the Albany Police Department (Georgia) as a Patrol Officer. During Chief Rodriguez’s 13 year tenure with the Albany PD,
Rob served in several capacities such as, Patrolman, Field Training Officer, Accident Investigator, Sex Crimes & Homicide Detective, Patrol Supervisor, and Investigator for city’s Risk Management department.
Prior to joining the Cordele Police Department, Chief Rodriguez was the Deputy Chief of Police Operations with the Moultrie Police Department (Georgia). As the Deputy Chief of Police for the Moultrie Police Department, Chief Rodriguez was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department. In addition to being the Deputy Chief of Police, he served in the capacities of Patrol Division Commander, Accreditation/Certification Manager, Departmental Training Officer, Criminal Investigations Division Commander, Patrol Supervisor, and Field Training Officer Program Coordinator.
One of Chief Rodriguez’s professional passions is training and education. Chief Rodriguez is a Senior Instructor, Departmental Training Officer, Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Health & Wellness Instructor, and Crisis Intervention Team Trainer. Chief Rodriguez has taught hundreds of professional law enforcement officers throughout the state and currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor for the Basic Instructor/Trainer Course located at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia.
Chief Rodriguez is a military veteran and shortly after the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, Chief Rodriguez was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Navy, and reported to NWS Charleston, in Charleston, SC. Chief Rodriguez was assigned to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). While attached to NCIS, Chief Rodriguez’s experience was utilized to conduct sexual assault investigations at NWS Charleston.
Rob holds an Associates of Science degree from Thomas University, a Bachelor of Science from Wilmington University, and a Masters of Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University. In addition, Chief Rodriguez is a graduate of Command College and serves as a member of the Darton State College’s Criminal Justice Advisory Board; Chief is a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity where he serves as an Assistant District Officer for the South Georgia District.
Chief Rodriguez is married to the former Melanie Stephens of Albany, Georgia. Rob and Melanie have four children, John, Megan, Olivia, and Andrew.
