- How
do I obtain a copy of a police report? All police reports are
released in accordance with the Georgia Opens Records Act. Cordele police
reports are available from the police department. Accident reports can
only be issued to the person(s) or insurance companies named in the
report. If you request a report, only the original occurrence (incident)
report and charge sheets can be released until the case has been adjudicated.
Basic police reports are usually free and can be obtained by e-mail,
fax, or in person. Click here for and open records request
form.

- How
do I find out how much a traffic citation will cost? Fines
vary according to jurisdictions. For a citation issued within the City of
Cordele, contact the police department or the Municipal Court Clerk
at (229) 276-2916.

- Where
do I go to pay my traffic citation? If your citation was issued within the City of Cordele limits it should be paid at the Cordele Police Department. Otherwise, Section 4 of the traffic
citation should indicate where and when the citation needs to be paid.

- Can
I make a report at anytime or do I need and appointment? The
police department responds to calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
An officer will come to your house or business unless you specify another
location to initiate an investigation. Dial 911 and the dispatcher will
ask a few short questions before sending an officer.

- Can
I make a report over the telephone or does and officer have to come
to my house? Some reports can be taken over the phone. However,
it is usually best for an officer to meet with you.

- Should
I report suspicious activities in my neighborhood? The police
officers cannot be everywhere in the community all of the time and depend
upon concerned citizens to report unusual or criminal behavior. Only
you know what is suspicious for your area. If something doesn't look
right, it probably isn't. Contact centralized dispatch at 911 and they
will ask some questions about the activity and descriptions of the persons
involved. You may be asked if an officer can contact you, but you can
refuse to meet with an officer. However, it is important that you call
the police.

- Does the police department fingerprint for the public and when can I have
my fingerprints done? Yes, officers will fingerprint someone
for pistol licenses, job applications, and alcohol applications. We
ask you come to the police department between Monday and Friday, 8:00
a.m. and 5:00 p.m. There is a $5.00 charge as required by the State.
- How do I obtain a criminal history check? The Cordele Police Department requires you to complete a consent form and show a picture identification to recieve a criminal history. The history checks Georgia records only and the cost is $7.00.
- Why
does it take so long for the police to come when I call? During
an emergency a few seconds can seem like hours. The average response
time for the Cordele Police Department is less than 5 minutes on non-emergency
calls and 2 minutes on emergency calls. All requests for police service
are assigned a priority based upon the seriousness of the incident and
the potential for injury or damage to property. At times, calls of a
less urgent nature must be delayed so officers can respond immediately
to more pressing calls.

- Can
I get a permit to carry a pistol? In Georgia, persons over
21 years of age are not required to have a permit to carry a weapon
unless it is going to be carried concealed. A person with no felony
convictions may carry a concealed weapon in their home, car, or business
without a permit. However, we recommend all pistol owners attend a safety
course and obtain a license. Licenses may be obtained from the Probate
Judge's Office. Their number is (229) 276-2621.

- Is
there a curfew in cordele? Georgia law requires children under
16 be home between the hours of midnight and 5:00 a.m.

I am going out of town, can the police watch my house? Contact
the police department at (229) 276-2921. The clerk will need to know
your name, address to be checked, the date of your trip, and emergency
contact information.
